Gartner’s October 2016 report, “Strategic Roadmap for Digital Business Transformation” advises CIOs on how to deploy the right resources within a five-stage development model required to become a digitalized business. The report cites Gartner’s CIO study which found that approximately two-thirds of enterprises are currently investigating or experimenting with digital transformation, but that few have achieved “full-scale” digital businesses.
As Gartner asserts in the featured report, companies must address infrastructure to move to digital business at scale. “Conventional IT infrastructure will not support digital business. It must expand to incorporate the many new data types emerging from the Internet of Things (IoT) and operational technology (OT). This data must be integrated with conventional data. The infrastructure must be robust enough to handle all of this data – which is perhaps an order of magnitude greater than data from IT systems alone. And it has to support real-time operations.”
Liaison points out that companies seeking to achieve digital business transformation must begin to modernize their integration infrastructure immediately, with the objective of creating a robust data supply chain that takes in new and existing data sources at one end and uses advanced analytics applications to generate insights from incoming data at the opposite end.
