The Liaison Healthcare team had an opportunity to attend the North Carolina HIMSS Spring Conference, organized by the North Carolina chapter of HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society). Although the audience was smaller, the weather was perfect for the group golf outing on Monday. Tuesday we spent the day indoors attending presentation sessions.
The sessions targeted both a technical and business professional audience and included a range of topics, such as setting up a virtual desktop infrastructure to leveraging technology for improving business clinical outcomes.
One of the most interesting aspects of the conference was a session regarding a large radiology group who was able to leverage data collected from workflow transactions, such as orders, and transform it into actionable data for their physician base. The reports were created to illustrate the productivity and quality metrics of their workflow in comparison to their peers in the same practice.
I found this session to be a great example of how connecting, integrating, aggregating and harmonizing clinical data improves patient care by demonstrating valid statistics in an effort to reduce patient care error rates.
Another presentation I found exciting examined how healthcare IT organizations are now using cloud technologies to improve quality of care and reduce costs.
Overall, this was a great conference and I look forward to the next one. Let me know your takeaways, or if you want to find out more about what we learned in these sessions.
