By Larry Mieldezis, Liaison Technologies
Last week was a very exciting and somewhat invigorating week for Liaison Technologies, and on a personal level. I had the opportunity to attend the Red Herring 100 Awards conference in Santa Monica. I have to tell you, there is something about being surrounded by companies that are thought of as the most innovative game-changers in the tech industry. For those who don’t know, each year the Red Herring Magazine editorial team selects the top 100 most innovative companies from a pool of hundreds across North America. The nominees are evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy and integration into their respective industries. Liaison was fortunate enough to be nominated earlier this year as a consideration for this prestigious award.
Attending the conference last week, where the top 100 companies are selected, I had the opportunity to meet CEO’s and company presidents for companies who were building and designing industry-changing solutions. These ranged from paper batteries poised to change the mobile device world, to the world’s smallest medical stent used for optical medical treatment and surgery, all the way to new cloud-based innovative security and midmarket ERP solutions. I was honored to represent Liaison Technologies as a member of the cast of companies being considered for the Top 100 award, but when we were actually selected as a winner – well I have to say its pretty humbling. The environment and buzz was something short of phenomenal, it was like a brand new boom of emerging technologies and market changes that we all lived through in the early 2000’s. The only difference, these companies have real business plans, with real revenue and are addressing real issues in the markets they serve.
If reflecting on the wild and boundless innovative ideas and business plans I had the opportunity to learn about last week, I can’t help but think of a quote made by one of the world’s greatest recent innovators who said….”And no, we don’t know where it will lead. We just know there’s something much bigger than any of us here.” This was, of course, Steve Jobs.
And this is true, so many of the ideas and innovations of our day will lead to changes, shifts and presentation of new business models, new technologies and new opportunities for us all. I truly expect to see a number of those chosen last week to be headlining new and innovative business offers, changing markets and industries as leaders, not followers. Join me in congratulating all those companies recognized as Red Herring’s Top 100. I truly look forward to watching how each of them contributes to an evolving world filled with technology enhanced business models.
I knew I should have gotten autographs last week!
