ATLANTA — Oct. 29, 2013 —
Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) faced with trying to address data management and integration complexity issues can take advantage of cloud-based solutions that will lead to faster data sharing and connectivity, as well as reducing their system implementation costs.
That’s the message Naveen Sarabu, director of product management with Liaison Healthcare Informatics, delivered earlier today to an audience of approximately 75 health care leaders attending the 2013 AHIMA convention at the Georgia World Congress Center.
“For all sized health organizations, the need to develop a strong foundation for the sharing of health information is critical. With the reduction in hospital admission and reimbursements, coupled with the rise in consolidated medical practices, hospitals and health systems, the realization of competing with physicians for mindshare has been difficult to accept and understand for many within the healthcare industry. Having a strong foundation for sharing information requires high-level patient engagement, the ability to report quality and cost measures accurately, and promotion of the coordination of care. This means that all healthcare providers need to begin building their data management and integration foundation block by block.” Sarabu told the group.
“But, in order to do this successfully, the different stages must be defined and executed strategically. This means that at each stage: practice health data integration, the formation of the longitudinal patient record, and the population of health analytics requires the integration, aggregation and harmonization of health information data. Labs need to integrate with a patient’s health record, all patient information must be held in a secure patient data repository that is integrated across all healthcare providers, and lastly, the data must be harmonized so that real analytics can be used to best identify key health indicators that affect the coordination of care for the population as a whole” stated Sarabu.
Liaison Healthcare plans to provide a recorded version of Sarabu’s presentation, “Health Information Exchange: Meeting the interoperability challenges of ACOs,” shortly after the show for those interested in learning more about the Building Blocks to Successful Data Integration and Management. We will send the URL to this presentation out with our post-show mailing, a posting on our blog, and via email to those that came by our booth, #839, at AHIMA.
